Great Computer!

I purchased this computer 2 weeks ago. I use computers everyday at work and have had home computers for years, but I am definitely no expert on them. This computer has been great! The set-up was really easy, it is fast, and my kids really love the Touch Smart screen and the different apps for it. I did have one slight problem when I first set up the unit though. According to the set-up directions, there is a receiver that plugs into the USB port that is supposed to receive the signal from the wireless mouse and keyboard. I looked everywhere for that thing and never found it. I finished the set-up process using the touchscreen. A while later I turned the mouse and keyboard on, just to see what would happen. Both the mouse and the keyboard work fine, so if you order this model you my want to keep that in mind. Other than that my experience has been very positive, and I would highly recommend this computer.

we like it! UPDATE

We've had this one about 3 weeks now, and we like it quite a bit. Our old one was at least ten years old and we've had 4 children since then. They like it- they only use the touchscreen which is very quick and responsive. I don't use it for much- facebook, weather, news, and printing the occasional coupon. I also download pics and videos off of our camera on it- the screen is so clear and bright- nice picture. I wish I knew more about computers and could give a better review, but it works fast for our needs, so we're happy.
One thing I don't like a lot is the cdrom tray? It comes out sideways and on the first day I told the kids they wer NOT allowed to touch it for anything- it looks as if it would easily break.
It did seem to come with some extra programs that I removed soon after I got it because we wouldn't need them. We already had Norton that it pressures you to buy at the beginning so of course we used that. The setup was extremely simple if I can do it with 4 kids under 7 watching me make every move ha!

Still am happy with our computer!! No problems thus far, it's user friendly and fast :)

Lemon

This particular computer was a lemon. We unpacked and set it up; connected to home network, added printer. In less than an hour the computer had froze/locked up approx. 5 times. Contacted HP Support, they were very helpful and they assisted with a series of system hardware/software tests and helped with a system recovery. Following the system recovery, the computer locked up two more times and the monitor was frozen with a striped, pixilated pattern. Contacted HP Support again and they said I would have to send in for repairs. They would not replace since the warranty is a repair warranty not a replacement warranty. Brand new computer, unacceptable! I checked Amazon's return policy and ID'd it for return just in time. We had purchased on Nov 28 as a Christmas gift for our kids. We bought early so we wouldn't run in to any problems with not being able to find what we wanted. Luckily we discovered this problem just before the 30 day return policy had expired. I had never considered the risk of purchasing electronics so early.
