Great Technology and Easy to Use
By W. Dietrich
I got this desktop because of the Sony brand seeing that I own a Vaio laptop and several DVD players and TVs from Sony. Sony hasn't disappointed me yet.
In the box was a monitor, keyboard, mouse, power cord, remote for the TV option, batteries and paperwork. Normally desktops come with cords galore. I must say this desktop is for the minimalist - Amazingly there is only one compact cord to power everything. Assembly time took only seconds. I turned the computer on, and after a couple minutes for the configurations and agreeing to the licenses, it was ready for use.
The computer is SUPER easy to use with the touchscreen. Windows 8 on the other hand will take some getting used to. The "charms" view of your programs shows all the software/apps you have on one screen. Although this is an easy way to open an app or a window, I still revert to the normal "desktop" screen as found on all older PCs.
Sony provides a good detailed description on all the specifications of the computer as listed through Amazon. Here are some other details that may or may not effect your purchase of this desktop.
-Very few cords and it cleans up your desk and work area.
-I hooked up the TV to the monitor to see how it worked. It was easy to set up and use the remote. 24-inches is an excellent size for a computer monitor but way too small for my liking to watch TV.
-Keyboard and Mouse are only OK to use and I feel they are rather small. I have larger hands and they both can be difficult. The downside is that if I switch them out, I am using precious USB port space. The upside is the look is cohesive with the look of the entire unit.
-HD screen is excellent quality with crisp colors - I expected this from Sony.
-The camera is 1MP which was OK.
-SD card slot reader is somewhat difficult to use with big hands. Inserting the card into the slot is somewhat easy, however ejecting it was a problem. It seems to enter the slot at a angle. Don't throw away your USB adapter to read your SD cards because it is definitely easier to use.
-6 USB ports is great although three are stacked behind the monitor and can be difficult to insert if there is already a cord in the port.
-The sound is good to excellent when using it for computer use. TV use is OK
-It comes with little instructions but to VAIO care and support is a great resource to answer your questions.
-I can't say enough that the desktop is so easy to use once you adjust to Windows 8.
-Excellent computer for all media and graphics junkies - It comes preloaded with a lot of popular apps and useful programs.
I think this computer will satisfy the casual computer user to the more tech savvy individual because of its capability, speed, and ease of use.

A compact and versatile powerhouse
By Jesse Baynard
PROS:
+ Powerful quad core processor, similar to one that may be found in a gaming laptop
+ Mobile based processor, lets it "sleep" and "wake-up" very fast, saving time and power
+ Dedicated graphics with lots of dedicated memory
+ Clutter free: 1 thin power cable needed, everything else can be wireless (network, keyboard, mouse)
+ The keyboard is a joy to use. Despite that they made it compact, they did an excellent job with layout, responsiveness and even added a few useful multimedia keys
+ Lots of USB ports (including 3 USB3 ports), bluetooth and wireless B/G/N
+ Full Bravia TV functionality (including tuner and remote control) which means this PC can double duty as TV if space is limited (although I don't see myself using this feature)
+ HDMI output lets you plug in a second monitor (which I do use) and the video card has no problem expanding the screen to a second display.
+ The touch screen works very well and make Windows 8 much more usable.
+ Really good sound for a monitor (better than my previous dedicated speakers)
+ It's whisper quite (although in a very quite room you can sometimes hear the hard drive spin up).
CONS:
- It's pretty heavy at 25+ lbs due to its gorgeous 24" glass screen and built-in PC. Some people may need help setting it up and moving it.
- The glass screen makes it very reflective. So in a room with a strong light it can be harder to view.
- The webcam is subpar, especially when compared to every other part of this machine. I think it's a shame when you consider how good Sony is at producing cameras. It's low-resolution and poor white balance are my main complaints.
- The wireless mouse does not have a back button. Why? It's such a cheap feature that would have added so much value.
- With an integrated design, it makes upgrades and repairs a mostly external affair, but it's the same with laptops.
SMALL THINGS:
* You need to install the wireless USB connection for the keyboard and mouse, lift a panel and plug it in... easy but couldn't it be pre-installed?
* The screen can get smudgy after awhile... but that's the problem with all touchscreens.
* The USB 3 ports are on the side and the USB 2 ports are on the back... which is great if you need the speed for thumbdrives, but I use them for external backup drives and would've preferred those faster ports to be coming out the back instead of the side.
* An SSD boot drive in addition to the large capacity drive could've sped up this already fast machine even more.
* Monitor tilts up and down, but does not move up and down, so if you need it higher you will need to put it on something or mount it to a new stand.
* The included creative sound/video software is good and not too bloatish. The only pre-installed I didn't particularly like was the spammy Kapersky trial with the occasional trial upgrade off pop-up... but it's honest enough to remind you that you need anti-virus and it's easy enough to uninstall. Also the Office is a trial, but if you have a license it does speed up installation.
Overall, I'm very please with the options and power of this machine, other than the webcam and the mouse Sony has delivered an excellent user experience with this machine.

I love this All-In-One Computer!
By P. Bergbauer
Sony VAIO SVL24147CXB 24-Inch All-in-One Touch Desktop
Unboxing this computer was easier than normal as Sony provides a cardboard handled carry all to help take out the monitor/TV. The monitor/TV is heavy so be careful!
This computer has the easiest set up process that I have ever done for a desktop. Just plug it in and it is good to go. Only one plug because everything is wireless!
The wireless set up was simple- just a click and it found itself. I had security to install and there were updates for Windows 8. All of that though was automatic. Windows has a different interface so I am still getting used to it but like anything else it just takes time.
This is a TV/monitor in one and for me it's, perfect because I love streaming movies, etc. and this provides a perfect picture. The DVD player is awesome as well, A true all in one!
The monitor is an HD 1080p touchscreen with surround sound with four built in speakers and sub- woofer.
The picture is impressive. The monitor is slim and sleek with controls on top of the monitor and a remote control is included. You can also use your smartphone to navigate through the interface. And you can set up picture in picture! You can hang this on the wall but I have mine on a desk. This monitor has an adjustable stand that tilts up and down, to better view what I am watching.
The monitor also has a web camera and built in microphone. This computer all in one has all you need for entertainment at your fingertips and it is all so easy to use.
The keyboard is wireless, small and portable so I can sit further away from the monitor and still use the keyboard. I really like typing on the keyboard; I like the feel of the keys and the quiet click of them.
The mouse is also wireless and slim-lined, easy to maneuver and I like the clicking on it as well.
This computer is fast and I love everything about it. My son plays video games on it and there is no lag time at all. Downloading games, programs and personal data has been quick and this computer has just been very fun and enjoyable to use.
This computer has 2 HDMI ports, 3 and USB ports SD card slot and three USB 3.0 ports.
Some of the software included with this is ArtRage Studio which is a drawing and painting program with easy and understandable controls. My daughter is an artist and loves this feature.
There is also Sony Imagination Studio which has four apps that allow you to make movies, record/mix music and burn DVDs and Blu Ray disc.
I have only wonderful things to say about this computer, I really do love it. It meets all my needs and then some. There are some things on here that I am still learning and just using so I will update.
If you have any questions, post a comment and I will answer as best as I can.
