5The future of computing.
By John Filak
Wow, what can I say about this machine. Actually I picked up the 213 which may be a previous model. This is the future of computing.

I am not a computer expert. I am a consumer. We've been enjoying tablets for quite some time now. We have laptops and desktops too and this is the crowning achievement in this whole enterprise. This is clearly the favorite device in the house.

HP is a top company in my opinion. I like windows 7 a lot but windows 8 is much better for the future and touchscreen.

The screen is excellent: really nice and bright and nice colors. The camera takes great pictures and videos. It is very user friendly and the kids are having a blast with it already. The sound is good. The way the device sits close to the user, I have been thinking of using one of these to replace my main set-up in which I use a 50 inch hd tv.

It's like a huge touchscreen tablet but it has limited portability because its construction is also like a flatscreen tv. You can carry it place to place within the house but it is like carrying a small tv and unlike a tablet it needs to be plugged in.

It may have some little glitches like I had to touch a tile a few times on occasion but I did not downgrade the rating because the concept is just too good. I don't have one but I think this would be better than a touchscreen laptop because of the size of the screen and not having the keyboard in the way all of the time.

This is just a good concept and the future of computing in my opinion. HP delivers an excellent device in this new domain.

10/21/2013. I wanted to add after having this computer for a few months that this is the future of the desktop. I think the future of computing lies in portability: I find myself favoring tablets as my most used internet device. The desktop is much better when I need to exceed the occasional limitations of apps or the tablet. (For example, coming on this computer to edit this recommendation.)

4Great entry level AIO
By Larry Comer
I just got this today and have literally only been on it about an hour. So for the basics. Setup was simple and straight forward. Mine came with a wireless keyboard and mouse that uses a small dongle on the USB port, but since this is a touch screen model you may not need it. You can use both at the same time. The touch screen works flawlessly, even to the point of zooming with just a slight squeeze of the fingers like you do your smartphone.

Since my other PC in the living room is connected wirelessly, I hooked this one up via an Ethernet cable. But it picked up my wireless network instantly.

I did follow the setup guide and downloaded all the software recommended (There is a website to go to) That took maybe a half hour or so.

Startup is smooth and relatively quick. My pc came with the basic 4 gig memory, so I may do a memory upgrade soon, but I have no issues with speed at this time. Everything works well.

The screen is brilliant, clear and crisp. I played a video on YouTube with no issues. Tried a DVD and again, worked flawlessly. The sound is good. I don't know that there is a hook up for external speakers or not. I have not got that far into it.

There is no HDMI outputs for those thinking of hooking this up to their large screen. I also have a Lenovo AIO in the living room and the two are very much the same. The Lenovo may be a tad bit faster in loading, but certainly not a drawback.

The one small issue is that unlike the Lenovo AIO which allows for the screen to adjusted, this one is stationary (Or so it appears) but it is very sturdy.

All in all I have to say my initial impressions are very favorable. The touchscreen provides some relief from gripping a mouse for hours on end. If you want an all in one that is fast, easy to use, and everything necessary for standard PC use, I would recommend it.

**UPDATE** Upgraded the memory today and thought I would pass this along. The model I have will hold a max of 8GB ram. The computer was not incredibly slow before, but with windows 8 4GB is pushing it. I did notice the page would freeze on some websites, but nothing major. The memory chip in this computer is a PC3-12800. Very small module for laptops etc. I got the wrong one, but was able to exchange it. The motherboard is located under a metal casing in the upper right corner. Very easy to change, just take your time, or let a pro do it for you.

No further issues, and it is running fine.

5Thankfully, easy set-up!
By C. A. Westphal
Our Dell desktop is getting old/slow so this was to be the replacement. I hooked it up in the living room just to make sure everything out of the box worked, etc. there really weren't very many pieces, so ... Hmm.

The keyboard & mouse are wireless, unconnected to the computer - I have not used either one (yet). I plugged in the power cord, then the little thingamajig (dongle?) and it did its own set-up & found the house wi-fi on its own. It asked for basic registration info & had a basic "template" to get me online immediately. When I have more time, I will personalize it with my own preferences & shortcuts, but for now I have to say I'm so impressed at the quick out-of-the-box functionality. Having had several past desktops, this is by far the easiest set-up ever!
