Truly unique PC
By damonous
I'll first admit that I have a soft spot for groundbreaking PC designs, and the Lenovo Ideacentre is certainly one of them. Imagine a PC with a beautiful, rich 27" display. Then, imagine it's a full touchscreen. Add a pretty modern, zippy i7 processor. Add some pretty substantial stereo built-in speakers. Make it optionally operate as an HDMI-input device for your game system or movie player. Throw in some nifty gaming gadgets (e-dice, strikers, paddles & some matching specialized software). --Cool? Well, how about a 2-hour built-in battery so that you can power this massive beast stand-alone?
This device takes thinking-outside-of-the-box and thinks-outside-of-the-dimension.
There are downsides: If you want to effectively use if outside of on a countertop, you really need to also consider getting Lenovo's pricey but highly functional & streamlined matching stand. (Although, it's favorite spot is propped up on a nice table or kitchen counter.) If you want to connect a lot of USB devices, there are only 2 closely-situated ports on the side. If you like the auto-eject built-in table-stand, I wouldn't blame you; but I would also not blame you if you are sometimes slightly annoyed at not being able to 'lock' it in retracted position.
But the upsides clearly overcome the downsides. Outside of the features listed at the top, let's face it: Windows 8 was born for touch, and the Metro interface makes little sense without a touchscreen. With the Lenovo, it's interesting, actually: you get almost the equivalent of 4 distinct user interfaces, pre-installed:
1) W8 Metro (tiles)
2) W8 Desktop (old Windows)
3) Bluestacks (Android emulation)
4) Aura (Lenovo's custom & super-classy music/movie/photo/game interface)
Those who've looked at videos of Aura may think it looks cool, but there's really no comparison to seeing it in action and actually using it. As you drag album covers around, resize multiple photo image-viewers, drag them and push them around that dynamic 27" screen, you'll feel like you took a few steps into the future.
Last note: I have to stress how rich the 27" LCD itself is. Reds are rich and deep; color balance is surprising. I own other touchscreen devices and several different LCD's of varying sizes and I didn't really expect a full touchscreen to look as beautiful as this thing. Playing something like Test Drive Unlimited not only runs very well, but also just pops with lush color. Same thing for viewing magazines in digital readers (and, of course, the size of the panel makes it finally really feel like a valid option to paper).
Highly-Recommended for: gadget lovers, early adopters
Well-Recommended for: general users w/good PC aptitude (let's face it: Windows 8 has a pretty steep learning curve)
Maybe not your scene: power gamers (the built in graphics are good, but not bleeding edge) or the easily PC-challenged

The good/bad and ugly.
By HARRY
I love this thing. So much I thought I'd tell others about it. So here goes.
THE GOOD
1. Wow Factor, great for presentations.
2. The main reason I bought this was to use for my Canon 7D Dslr as a monitor. A few years back HD monitors that were 7" were selling for as much as this computer. With a battery powered 27" display I can find AND FOLLOW a sharp focus when using a small depth of field for sit down interviews, etc. This is the only thing out there with an HDMI input.
3. It comes with an Android (phone/tablet) emulator.
4. It is not that much heavier than my OLD 17" laptop from 2004 and with the Lenovo Horizon, even though it says not too, you can serve tea on it.
5. Music touch controller to launch samples and 10 point multitouch for moving multiple faders simultaneously - say no more.
6. It brings people together.
THE BAD.
1. You might spill tea on it.
2. You feel bad when people gather around and it takes so long to boot an app.
3. The name should be the "Horizon" not "IdeaCentre All In One Horizon 27 Table PC (Touch) - 57315590 - Silver"
4. You should not buy this for the games that come on it, they are a bit silly, though Im sure they will get better.
5. Monopoly still kinda sucks even on a computer, but when you flip this across the room you will have wished you bought the drop insurance.
6. My favorite feature of HDMI in, replaced the HDMI out. Yea, no HDMI out, even if the guy at Lenovo says it has it. Grrrr. Don't believe the florist when he tells you that the flowers are free. It does not seem to be a two way hdmi port. I just bought a usb 3.0 to hdmi external cable/card for $80 bucks to get around this issue.
okay, okay. More Good.
1. Even though it's tough to crack open, I bought more RAM 16GB, now the apps open fast!
2. I have an android phone for my android apps, it syncs nicely to the Horizon over bluetooth.
3. I quit drinking tea, I'm now into mango coconut water.
4. I bought that drop insurance ($200 bucks for 4 years)
THE UGLY
1. The case they give you is good if you want to carry it from your family room to your kitchen, then it breaks, but it always looks ugly. And its free so I shouldn't complain.
2. The stand doesn't lock, which is very convenient, until you want to put it in that ugly case.
3. You are not gonna pick up any chicks because of that keyboard and mouse, you can free up one of the 2 usb ports by dumping it and getting a BT keyboard and mouse that chicks dig.
4. I have an ugly wooden bed laptop tray thingy, my girlfriend and I just knocked out a few Netflix seasons of Breaking Bad with this on top. It was amazing, exhilarating, titillating experience. The LCD display is sexy. So is my girlfriend, she likes me even though I have still have the old keyboard.
In summary, I paid over 2k for this sucker when it first came out (i7 1TB version) and it is worth every penny. Fun, unifying, sexy. I can even use it for editing. And it is amazing for 3D modeling in programs like Blender, where you can sculpt pixar type character with your fingers.

Both Work and Play win with the Horizon Table PC
By Dixie Gautreaux
I have had this computer for a few months now, and LOVE it. Sometimes the apps are sluggish - but overall it has great performance. My biggest complaint is the stand on the back - it doesn't have a way to lock it into the any position other than open. While the weight of the PC is enough to lower it on the ground, the stand opens in the case and rips the cheap bag sent with the PC. BUT that is minor - the kids love it and with an i7 and 8GB of RAM it is powerful enough to satisfy me. The touchscreen works beautifully, and my main issues are more with Windows 8 than the horizon table PC!
